Diapontia Islands: Othoni – Corfu Cross Swim
The swimming team of Pastra Cretonaxiosa remaining focused on their annual planning swam again aiming on supporting the communities of small remote islands. Standing against the unprecedented and difficult conditions that the society in total had to face, due to the pandemic of Covid-19, the team managed to stay devoted to their vision and created, in the sea area of North Corfu, a swimming bridge among Othoni, Erikoussa and the northern edge of Corfu.
More specifically, the effort includes a swimming course of about 23 kilometers, in the quite cold water of the Ionian Sea, which the team covered on September 5th of 2020 by swimming under the relay race method, in order to honor the excellent students of the country’s small remote islands.
To those students – for whom the team “races” in multiple levels and who are beginning now their own personal journey towards science, by studying at Greek Universities – the cross-swim of Pastra Cretonaxiosa is once again dedicated, along with the wish that our support will accompany them in every step of this journey.
The swimmers who participated in the cross swim are: Evgenia Giannini, Sotirios Pastras, Apostolos Tsagkarakis, Evaggelos Zourbakis, Konstantinos Michos and Vasilios Maroulis.
In addition, as observer participated: Ioannis Mplias
While the reporter covering the activity was: Isaac Karipidis
The cross swim took place under the auspices of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
