{"id":474,"date":"2025-01-27T16:03:05","date_gmt":"2025-01-27T16:03:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/excellenseas.org\/project\/2024-periplus-of-meganisi\/"},"modified":"2025-01-27T16:03:05","modified_gmt":"2025-01-27T16:03:05","slug":"2024-periplus-of-meganisi","status":"publish","type":"project","link":"https:\/\/excellenseas.org\/en\/project\/2024-periplus-of-meganisi\/","title":{"rendered":"2024 &#8211; Periplus of Meganisi"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We are delighted to announce that on September 28, 2024, the <strong>ExcellenSeas Pastra Cretonaxiosa<\/strong> team successfully completed the swim around Meganisi Island, covering 31 kilometers in a relay format in 10 hours and 13 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This swimming initiative was held under the auspices of H.E. the President of the Hellenic Republic, Katerina Sakellaropoulou, aiming to raise awareness and financial support for the <strong>ExcellenSeas Scholarship Program<\/strong>, which empowers students from remote islands to access education. This year\u2019s event was dedicated to students from Greece\u2019s border islands, reinforcing our commitment to equal opportunities in education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The swim began in Vathy, Meganisi, and concluded with a warm and celebratory welcome by the local community. With the invaluable support of exceptional partners and volunteers, the effort was a great success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Participants<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The athletes who took part were: Evgenia Giannini, Vaggelis Zourmpakis, Apostolos Tsagkarakis, Sotiris Pastras, Vasilis Sofikitis, Petar Stoychev, Dimitrios Talaganis, and Vasilis Maroulis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Acknowledgements<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Special thanks to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Ingvar Jensen<\/strong>, for generously providing the vessel Take Off 3.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Captain Ilias Sfigakis<\/strong> and <strong>Dr. J.
