Visit to the President of the Hellenic Republic

The members of Pastra Cretonaxiosa Swimming Team, the first Greek team to accomplish cross-swimming the English Channel, were welcomed at the Presidential Residence by the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr Prokopis Pavlopoulos.

The President congratulated the members of the team “mainly on the extent that you have given to all your efforts, considering the future of young people, especially in areas of our country that need actual support. And we’re talking about people who, in their turn, are searching for their own future through a respective “cross-passing”, that of life. I hope your efforts set an example to plenty others.

All the noble characteristics of your action, especially the fact that it is completely selfless, in a world that is – not only in domestically but also internationally – not distinguished by selflessness, are valuable to us. To these characteristics, Solidarity towards Human can be added. We lack this kind of Solidarity.

Eugenia Giannini, from the team, thanked the President of the Hellenic Republic and noted that “it is an addition to our arsenal to feel that you are by our side and it is a great thrill for us to be capable of sharing our vision with you. Hence, our vision is to help, as you mentioned very well-put, the children of the distant islands, as well as to create a family of fellows, who will, in their turn, assist these areas again. We would also like to have the opportunity to expand the places where scholarships will be provided. For the time being, we have reached the islands with population of less than two thousand people. We would also like to expand our initiatives to distant villages in suburban areas of Greece. We found quite a few people who stood by our side. We have already secured seven scholarships. Besides, there is already an undergraduate who is studying with our support, she is the only graduate of Saint Stratis, who graduated from school this year and whom we support. We will provide  six more scholarships next year”.
